These temples have been an enigma for all the time since they have been discovered.

All kinds of insults and negative remarks have been heaped on Vedic culture for allowing such kind of sculpture to survive, and that too inside a temple.

The Vedas advocate two ways of being spiritually enlightened:

The PRAVRITTI MARGA (or the process of engaging your senses)
and
NIVRITTI MARGA (or the process of restraining your senses).

The basic principle for either of these paths is religious life. In animal life there is only pravrtti-marga.
Pravritti-marga means sense enjoyment, and nivritti-marga means spiritual advancement.
In the life of animals and ordinary sense enjoyers, there is no conception of nivritti-marga, nor is there any actual conception of pravritti-marga.
Pravritti-marga maintains that even though one has the propensity for sense gratification, he can gratify his senses according to the directions of the Vedic injunctions.
Mostly everyone has the propensity for sex life, but in demoniac civilization sex is enjoyed without restriction.
According to Vedic culture, sex is enjoyed under Vedic instructions.
Thus the Vedas give direction to civilized human beings to enable them to satisfy their propensities for sense gratification. One thing which has always fascinated me is that even though mediaeval Bharat had all these things on public display we DO NOT see any record of rapes, molestations, eve-teasing, and other crimes against women being on the rise.
Neither Indian historians nor all the foreign tourists who came to Bharat ever mention them.

Why are Khajuraho's Temples full of sexually explicit sculptures? Any historical reason behind this? Why only khajuraho? Why not others?

In ancient and medieval India, love and sex were an integral part of life. whether it was hetero or homo or tantric or whatever, there was no taboo associated with it, that is why westerners are often taken aback by the Kama sutra, erotic sculpture, phallic worship, etc. Kama (love) was an integral part of a persons life, nothing to be ashamed about.

However, things changed during the reign of foreign civilizations in the last 1000 years. Indians began imbibing notions of taboo associated with sex (both hetero and homo) and society has become rigid and quiet unindian in these matters.

I like to report some quotes from Devangana Desai.

"The temples of Khajuraho have more to offer than mere erotic sculptures. The emphasis on the erotic might be an unfortunate side effect of the mistaken notion that many of the illustrations in the Indian handbook of love, the Kama Sutra, are lifted from the temples."

The Indian art historian and recognized expert on the Khajuraho temples in Madhya Pradesh was the guest speaker at Summit Meru 2004, the Meru Foundation's annual concentrated focus on Indian arts and culture. "Erotic themes constitute not even one-tenth of the total sculpture on the temples, but have drawn undue attention,"  "erotic depiction was believed to be a good omen, because it symbolized regeneration and was part of a larger tradition prevalent at an all-India level."

In concentrating only on the erotic, one loses out on other brilliant imagery at the temple, "It's good to know about the erotic, but let's not get anchored there.

These temples are built to enshrine divinity. There was a conscious design in sculpture at the time with placement of erotic figures and divinities." Erotic figures served an auspicious purpose and, according to Desai, their origins can be traced back to the fertility figures of ancient Indian art and the architectural Vaastu texts . Using the Lakshmana Vaikuntha and the Kandariya Mahadeva temples as examples, Desai pointed out that artists at Khajuraho made creative use of an established theme, the conjunction of the opposites, the union of the male and female principles, by placing appropriate sculptures on the juncture walls, ones that link the hall for devotees to the sanctum where the divinity is placed.

Desai says this placement metaphorically conveys something beyond the erotic.

Khajuraho, the old village

Khajuraho is a very hystorical place. His temples have been preserved and only 40 years agothere were only very few new buildings. The old village was the second attraction after the temples.
Walking in the old village was a new discovery in every corner. Life was simple, local people friendly. The old village is as it was except than few shop selling nice handicrafts made of brass.
Very few artists are carving the brass here and now become rare to get some nice souvenir.
But the old village is worth a visit.
Some pictures can help you how life is as it was several years before.
